Hello everyone!

I have been chasing this hard starting problem that my truck has for over a month now. It is a 93 pick up 4x4 with the 22re motor in it.

it seems to be ok when the engine is cold and i start it, but when I run the engine a little, shut the truck off and attempt to start it again, it will not want to start easily. usually i must play around with it for like ten minutes until it finally feels like not being on its own program and it will start. any ideas on this one?

also, at a certain time when i am running the truck down the road the check engine light will come on and as soon as it does I feel a little power loss. as if perhaps the fuel trims have been cut back or the timeing has been retarded.

I have a V6 3.0 that is doing a very similar thing. Seems like maybe it's not getting gas?? But very prominent gas smell.. ? Can run to store, shut off and be in like 10 minutes & it may crank back up. Then at other times, shut it off and wait about 30 mins before cranking and it might start up... I have to wait about 30 mins or more messing with it to get it to start. Battery is fine, plenty of power. You are right about it having a mind of its own. Confusing problem to me, too. Hope you get an answer, maybe it will help us both. Good luck!

I brought the truck to the local shop in town to see if they will be able to diagnose the problem. ill keep you all posted when they give me a call tomorrow...

looks like there is a possibility that it could be the knock sensor circuit. that is a 52 code from the DLC. it may be that if the knock sensor is not right, then the computer may retard/ advance timing, cut fuel during starting, etc. It will take me a little while to figure out exactly what it could be...
