93 4runner motor swap need help ASAP
ok so, my 22re kicked the bucket in my 93 runner, so i went out and picked up an 85 22re, and all the parts except body harness( seller wouldnt part as he felt he needed it for his 3.4 swap) i need to figure out how to make a new harness that will run the 85 motor plug into the 93 ecu/ecm and go to 93 body harness to run everything else, any wiring diagrams that are mobile friendly, or any help at all would be immensely appreciated, me and my friend that are working on it are at wits end trying to figure it all out.

About the most easy way is to get the Toyota EWD`s (Electrical Wiring Diagrams) for your 4Runner and the one for the vehicle the donor engine came from
Most likely your missing the fourth plug for the Ecu the others should be on the engine harness .
Once you have the fourth plug just a simple matter of repining your 93 plug to the one to fit your new 85 ECU
Another route you can go is to put your engine harness (93) with your ECU and all sensors .
Another thing you might run into is the injector impedance different from 85 to 93 can cause some real interesting no start conditions .
It is early and I have not had enough Coffee!! YET !!! so I could have something wrong.

When the motor died in my wife's '92 3vze 4rnr, all I could find at the time (within my budget) was a rebuilt engine from an '89. Some things wouldn't match up. So, I just used the block and heads from the '89 and everything else I used from the original '92 system. Simple. No incompatibility that way. Unless there's something about your circumstance I'm not following, I don't see why you couldn't just do something like that yourself.

My 93 22re has bent rods missing valves # 4 and 1 cylinders grenaded has holes punctured in it... its too much to fix up... and the 85 22re is a built motor from Lc engineering, picked it up for 1200 cad. Came with motor engine harness header full cat back 2.5" exhaust transmission rad and everything needed for the swap excepy body harness.. which is whats been root of evil for this for me, and i cant find one.

If i was going stock to stock i couldve done what you did with parts from the 85.. but the 85 has about 9000$ put into it with machining and mods so none of those parts would fit my 93, plus the 93 had 490,000km original... was time to retire it.

Now I am more confused!!
Just what is not working ??
Your using the 93 ECU so the body harness plugs right in.
The engine harness is the tricky side unless your using your engine harness and electronics.
You might be able to find the Ewd`s on ebay or some one might have a copy I have the 92 and 94 but not the 93.

Don't make this harder than it needs to be. Pull the grenaded engine out, swap in replacement block & heads. Reinstall electric components.
It should start right away if you get the timing right and serve you a long time.

Alt n starter from my 93 don't work, and are you certain dist isnt ok? I had the motor running when first swapped for about 45 minutes then it acted starved of fuel, Lc engineering injectors weren't working properly so i had to switch in my 93's to the 85 and itll start up but die after a few minutes...

And for all intents and purposes, lets say the 93 motor no longer exsists, gotta use the 85, didn't buy an $8000 motor to end up not being able to use any of it and just rebuilding my stock 93.. there's got to be a way for the 85 to work..

If you had it running you should be good to go and have more problems to figure out
If that is the way you want to go .
Now this new engine that you got so cheap I wonder why??
You then need to get the proper electronics for the 85 engine .
All the correct sensors.
the correct ecu
The distributor
coil igniter
injectors not forgetting the solenoid resistor for the injectors
Then get the correct plug for the 85 ecu that is not on the engine harness.
Pin that so it works with what you have.
I am no doubt forgetting something but this should get you started.

If you have the 93 harness, computer, intake, throttlebody, sensors, distributor,it shouldn't be a problem. Tear the new engine down to a long block, and put all the old stuff off your old engine on the new long block. Then install the engine, and plug in/hook up all the 93 harness and everything.

it should be plug 'n play... use the '93 intake/tb, because it has the better warm-up system, it'll bolt right up to the '85 lower intake runners.

Will doing that work even if the 85 has been bored out and such? We had it running.. like it will start up and drive but after a couple minutes it idles really rough, need a wiring diagram for chassis side of 93 ecu, like color coded super detailed... i bought an online one and it'll go as far as relays then cuts off doesn't show what colors actually connect to the ecu from chassis harness. Like what wires run cruise because im eliminating it. I can drive it as of now but i dunno if my gauges are reading properly and i cant risk blowing it.. and wyoming, i called Lc engineering they built the motor in December, guy posted it up in february and it just sat in his hunting pickup. Ran Smooth as silk in his truck when i checked it out, mechanic took it apart and looked its all clean, he just wanted it gone. Found a supercharged 3.4 to drop in

did lce bore out the throttle body on the '85? if so, you might see a slight loss of power at full acceleration with the '93 intake/tb, but the '93 intake/tb should work a lot better than what you are seeing there.
you should be using all of the sensors and such from the '93, so the engine harness should plug right in, no need for a wiring diagram there.
