Question '93 4 Runner/3.0 V-6 Question

And, hopefully an easy one to answer !

I called on a '93 4 Runner, 5 speed, w/ 136K on the clock.

The guy told me that it needed an oil change because the check engine light was on, and it did that every 4 - 5 K telling him it was time to change the oil.

I did search ( I promise ! ) but did not see anything that would let me know whether this is true or false.

Any help is appreciated - I don't know much about 4 Runners, but am learning, and at the same time learning a bunch on my '94 Land Cruiser.

Thanks !

Britt

This is the first I have heard of that "feature"! I have a '91 3.0 and know that it is not the case for it.

It is easy enough to pull the CEL codes. Search that up. I am willing to bet that the ECU is kicking out something else other than change oil.

I suspect it's like the L.C. - short the proper diagnistic terminals & read the code.

The trick is that this is something that I potentially am looking to buy, and starting off w/ an unknown CEL is "intersesting" to say the least.

Not a chance on the '93 4R. Never believe the owner for the cause of a CEL when you're considering buying a vehicle. Pull the codes and see for yourself.
