92 Toyota Pickup 2wd upgrades
Just picked up this 92 toyota pickup 2wd 22re 5 speed with 160,000. I'm wondering what upgrades are most cost effective for this motor in terms of a daily driver for gas mileage. And or what I should be prepared to fix at this mileage point.
I'm also wondering what most people do with this super ugly rear bumper with placement for ball hitch. I will never be towing and ideally I could install a 1 1/4" or 2" hitch receiver in place of it to carry cargo / bike rack. Has anyone done this or have a nice looking rear bumper they recommend instead?
Any recommendations on new seats? I've seen a lot of people put bucket seats in these but I have no idea what bolt patterns will line up and what to look for.

i have a 95 2wd 22re with a solid axle swap and v6 tranny
as far as the truck goes do what you want and what makes you feel most comfy
as far as picking seats go alot of seats will fit and the biggest mod you should have to do is drill a new hole for a bolt to go through. the biggest thing i recommend is measure from the floor to the seat surface to make sure they arnt to tall. i have dodge durango seats and i have racked myself while wheeling before and it sucks considering going back to bench seat honestly.
i dont know if a tube bumper would look good on a 2wd or not but thats up to you
btw truck looks good mines all dented up and rusted but same color

Nice truck you've got there. You can improve your fuel economy a little by losing the roof rack, radio antenna and mudflaps. That will improve aerodynamics and it won't even cost anything.

no cold air intake or free flowing advice as a improvement? I just picked up a 1993 xtra cab 4cyl automatic and would like to know if there are any improvements that have worked also.

Thanks for the advice so far. I've taken the mudflaps, antenna and roof rack off and seeing better mpg so far. I'm rocking the truck without the shell and its running great. I'm having one issue though with some grinding periodically shifting into 3rd. Ive read that before doing anything transmission wise I should look into replacing the stock shifter bushings and that marlin crawler makes some heavy duty ones. Marlin's should work for the 2wd transmissions the same right? Do I just need the white bushing on the bottom of the shifting arm itself or should I also change the cup that that ball sits in?
BTW, best change I've done so far is clean out the throttle body. The gas pedal was sticking slightly upon startup and cleaning out the throttle body / running some seafoam changed the feel dramatically.
