92 SR5 front end locked up...

First off I want to thank everyone on here in advance for their help and tech tips. I'm new to this site and the yota world in general, I'm working on a 92 sr5 3vze project that will be turned into a crawler, bought the truck with a blown HG and finished that job (what a job) last week.

Now for my problem the truck came with some 31's and I plan on running 35s so I sold the tires to the guy that had the truck before and he gave me stock replacements. When I finished putting on the new stock tires I went to move the truck and the front end seems locked up. The only thing I did was lift the truck and had it sitting on jack stands.

Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? I'm stumped.

I have check a few vacuum hoses for leaks, I have jacked the front tires off the ground but they won't budge, and if you put the tcase in neutral the front drive shaft moves freely with now rough sounds. Before when I was testing the motor out after the rebuild I had the truck in 4lo and there was a couple times in turns it sounded like the driveshaft was smacking the cab. Is it a drive train issue instead of brakes?

Again thank you for your help or any ideas of stuff to check!

Do the rims not have enough back space and hit calipers

This in general is a bad thing to do if you were on dry pavement. Could have messed something up in the front diff.

One way to tell if it's brakes/tires or the front diff is to pull off the drive plates on the ends of the front axles. That will release the CV axles from the wheels, and the front wheels should turn freely even with a locked up diff.

To remove the drive plates, pop out the grease cap and remove the center gold bolt. Then loosen the 6 nuts but don't fully remove them, smack the nuts good with a hammer to pop loose the cone washers, remove nuts and washers, and then slide off the drive plate. If it resists, there are two 8mm threaded holes in the plates into which you can insert bolts as a puller to exert extra force to get it to break loose.

One other thing, what do you mean by "won't budge"?

If by that you mean there isn't the slightest hint of motion of the wheels, then the problem is likely stuck brakes or dragging tires. If you can rock the wheels a few degrees but they very quickly refuse to go further, then you likely have a problem in the drive train.

Thanks for the ideas.. when I get home from work I will see what's going on. It was late lastnight when I finished up the mounting so it's probably something dumb.

Red face

I bet dollars to doughnuts the wheels don`t have the correct back space.

When things were torqued down the wheels are tight against the caliper of course things don`t move.

I am speaking from experience having done just this.

Pull the front wheels see if things move then.
