92 4Runner headlight bulbs

When the rains came to where I live I really noticed that my headlights are very dim.

When raining I am driving and I can barely see anything. I live where there are not many street lights so passing a car on the road their headlights are generally going to be brighter because there isn't any other light out.

I am blinded by the other drivers lights and theirs overpower mine.

I am not sure that all the OEM headlight bumbs are like this. Maybe mine just have dimmed too much and are ready to be replaced.

Has anyone else had this problem with their runner?

Also, would the OEM be the best replacement or does anyone think that going with the Silver Star lights is a good choice?

And one more thing. Does anyone know about the Xeon bulbs that are sold on ebay for like $10? They are probably a waste of money but I've never used them.. has anyone used those and are they good or bad?

Thanks

Brighter Lights

Hey SMOD, What's up, Merry Christmas, Hey I just bought a set of X-Rated halogen bulbs for $5.99 at Super Auto Bacs in Garden Grove yesterday.

They're super bright work great and you can't go wrong with the price, if I'm not mistaken, I think they will be on sale until 12/31/08.

RRIND

P.S. My 94' took 9004's

Driving in blizzards for two weeks, I noticed my headlights didn't do much. I bought two new bulbs, not sure the exact name, the part number is 9004, pretty much standard issue for this model 4Runner, for $10 on eBay.
When it stops snowing, I'll put them in, hopefully I will be able to see a little better.

Lights

I got mine from Auto Bacs a retail store in Garden Grove, so I can't speak for the e-bay lights either. What I do know is, that if these X-Rated lights give me brighter lights for six month for six bucks I'll call it a deal.

Alright. Thanks for all the info.

I was checking out those Sylvania Ultrastar bulbs too. At a Kragen in my town they are like $50! Which is a little pricey in my eyes for headlight bulbs.

Although I ran with the sealed beam Silverstar Sylvania headlights in my chevy blazer and they worked great. But I didn't have them long enough to really know if they were worth the money.

I might have to break down and buy some ultrastars.
6months is great for 6 bucks! I may consider that also.

Anyway.. thanks everyone for they help.
And if any other ideas or thoughts or reviews come up. I will definately listen.

Thanks again

Here's the link for the bulbs I got from eBay:

They were only $10 including shipping, worth a shot. Haven't put them in yet, the weather here has been terrible.

I bought the ultrastars!
I got $10 off at Kragen. It came out to be like $43.

It is a steep price for bulbs but I've used them and know I can trust them.

Thanks for all your help

TYPO* I meant to say Smod on the post before this one. I was on an Iphone and the keypad is hard to type on.

So I got the lights today and put them in about half an hour ago. lol. I like my truck.

I went for a quick test drive and there is a noticable gain in brightness with these light bulbs.

I can't quite say really how good they are yet because I haven't tried them in the rain or with on coming traffic.

Don't buy the silverstars if you want good lighting in wet weather. The whiter/bluer the light the worse the visable light is in the rain.

Go for a yellowish light for better all around lighting.. Or rig up a set of pure yellow fog lights and throw a set of white bulbs in the headlights.

I haven't had much experience with the yellow shaded lights/light bulbs.

I used to have them on my 94 blazer for fog lights and I remember hating them. I hate that yellow shade because it bugs my eyes. lol.

But that's the first I've heard that yellow would be better. It makes sense though. I am going to put some sort of a set of lights on my truck, whether it be for off road or fog lights.

I may consider getting yellows because I always can have the ultrastars in my headlights (which I might add that I am very satisfied with. The Slyvania Ultrastars really lighted up the roadway and I'm not blinded by oncoming traffic anymore, and I believe they are fine for other drivers on the road too. I'm pretty sure they dont blind everyone. lol).

Thanks for the info. I'm deffinately going to consider yellow lights on my truck.

Much appreciated.
