91 Toyota 22RE will not start
Hey guys,
I'm new here and am at my wits end. So i thought i would give this a try in hopes that someone could help me resolve this issue.
The truck ran fine until last thursday, i parked it on thursday and drove my car all weekend. Sunday morning I went out to start the truck and it will not start. The engine cranks fine, and even sounds like it wants to start for a split second but doesnt.
I can smell gas in the tail pipe, and even in the oil ( could this be from where i tried putting some gas in the throttle body? )
I have tested spark and it has spark, (Bluish-Purple not orange so i believe it's good spark) I haven't found a place on the rail to check for fuel, although it could be that i just don't know what i'm looking for. However i assume that since i can smell gas in the tail pipe that it is getting fuel. Any help here is greatly appreciated

You could jumper the fuel pump connector and turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump running.
Or loosen the 12mm bold on the banjo connection at the cold start injector and see if you have fuel pressure after you cranked it for a bit.
If you have fuel and spark the next thing I'd check for is a vacuum leak and do a compression test...?

codes. check codes. pop hood and look at the diagram (not vacuum, the other one) that shows which ports to jumper for timing check. may also be under the diagnosis (by the fuse box) port's cover. btw, the diagnosis port is where you will be applying this jumper wire. (i use a staple)
if jumped correctly your check engine light should flash something like morse code. something tells me your gunna get a 14. as in blink, pause, blink, blink, blink, blink
maybe 12. blink, pause, blink,blink
do this with the key in the on position
if your light blinks repeatedly, your computer sees system normal, and thats a good thing. that limits your problems to hardware.

Check your cold start injectior time switch. There is a procedure for testing it on 4crawler's site. Google it and it will come up. I would link it for you but I am at work and can't get into it.

Plan on doing the compression test this evening, I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but i'm really not sure how to check the fuel pressure at the cold start injector, i'm not very knowledgeable of 22re engines. I'm not even too sure which is the cold start injector. The AFM is plugged in, I unplugged the connector and cleaned it, and put it back on still a no go.

Go to 4crawler's site and start reading, by the end of the day you will be pretty familiar with the 22re. Will tell you all about the cold start system...

I'm aware of that and I've looked at what the codes mean I was hoping for someone else's oppinion as I'm no mechanic. I'm here for help sorry if its frustrating you.
I also have good fuel pressure at cold start injector.

Yeah it is. I finally got it to start today but its running hella rough. Compression test was 135 130 140 105. Could smell gas in the oil so I drained & put fresh in. Took it down the road it has no power and very rough. Rechecked the oil and it looks like caramel. Guess its time to tear it down for head gasket and inspect the damage.
