91 Pickup Sputtering From Water, But Unidentified Cause!
Hey yota lovers, I've got a serious problem!
Whenever I go through small bodies of water that are 6" deep or above (amount of water splashing), my truck starts to sort of sputter, like when I try to accelerate, it mildly jerks but I have no power at all. This will last a few minutes and then be completely fine! It only has started to do this about 2 or 3 months ago.
note: My distributor is already waterproofed, and it mostly happens when I go through puddles on the right side of the truck.
I need serious help, or else I may be without off-roading this summer!!!

Seal the new cap and rotor you should buy. Look at the spark plug wires at night to see if there arcing. And or get new ones. sounds like water is splashing up some. Make a splash shield.

The cap and rotor and completely fine, they arnt the problem. And I would create a splash shield but I just don't know what the problem is. My Plugs and wires are fine also, I did the spray test with them and I'm already using di-electrical grease on them.

Give us some pics of the engine compartment, exterior driver side, and some of the driver side wheel well to give us an idea of what we're working with here. We might be able to give you a general list of "problem" areas.

If im correct, your saying that when you hit water on the passenger side of the vehicle, You lose power...
If your truck is anything like mine was, when you press the pedal full throttle during this problem, it takes off like a bat out of hell...
Your computer is behind the kick panel on the passenger side, Above and behind the dash there is a rubber grommet that is used to plug the firewall...After a period of time this grommet will get old and worn and begin to let water seep in, Thus leaking onto your computer.
At least this was my problem...
To get to this grommet, you will need to remove your windsheild wipers, Remove the panels underneith and you should see it on the passenger side.
Seal it up with some kind of liquid nails or 5200 marine adhesive sealant (amazing stuff)
Good luck!

Reasonable people dont spend hard earned cash on 20 year old trucks.Or ride 4 wheelers .Or race motocross,or drag race or own a machine gun.Reasonable people probably wear helmets in the shower because its such a dangerous place.Guess I must not have as much common sense as a resonable person, but I do enjoy myself. But if it scares you to hit 6 inches of water at 20 mph then my front seat aint the place for ya

Alright it's probably more around a foot or more of water, just in the rut on the side of the roads. but 20mph? thats idiotic.
But when I floor it it doesn't do that, it just has random surges of acceleration and the engine rpm's go wayy down (at least it sounds like it, my 91' doesnt have a tach). Sounds almost as if it were struggling to stay alive.
