So after driving from Alaska to Utah on my roundabout way to New Hampshire, my 91 4runner (~150,000 miles on the 3vze) developed a suspension creak. Everytime I would go over any small (or big) bump there was a very audible creak. It sounds like it's coming from the right rear and sounds like a slighty loose bolt.

I checked every bolt I could get my hands on and nothing was loose. Jumping up and down on the truck at a variety of points didn't produce the sound. However if I put it in gear and pushed the truck forward from the rear wheels I would hear the creak.

It is louder/more frequent when the there isn't much in the back. I'm thinking because of the test with pushing the truck in gear that it might not actually be a suspension issue, but it's most prevalent going over bumps...

any idea? I'm obviously new to this forum, and pretty green about this car maintenance stuff.

Might be a bad shock. Failed bushing in the trailing arms.

Spray a little WD40 or PB Blaster on the rubber bushings one at a time, let it soak in a little and then go for a short drive and see it the noise stops. Do each bushing one at a time until the noise stops, once the noise stops thats the bushing that was making the noise.

i had the exact same noise in the same place.....it lasted about a month or two and eventually went away....never could figure it out...was very annoying...
