91 4-Runner driveability ??
Hey all,
I have been lurking for a few weeks after I found you all through google. I have recently put my 4-Runner back on the road after having sat all winter. (originally thought it had a broken ring - long story) Anyway to make a long story short I have a 1991 4-Runner SR5 with a 3.0 (non-California) that is hesitating and stuttering a little bit. Of course this happens when it is cold but after it warms up it happens under acceleration usually around 3500 - 4000 rpm if I kind of feather the throttle I can get through it and around 4000 it smoothes out. It is a 3.0 so it is of course a slow acceleration but acceleration nonetheless. So now that you have a little background, let me tell you what I have already done.
Compression Check all cylinders are right around 150
Completed ISR Mod
Verified bad TPS with Multimeter (used info found in the manual found here)
General Tune up Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.
Verified there are no vacuum leaks
Replaced VAF meter (about 2 and a half years ago)
oh yeah and replaced the engine (this was done about a 2 years ago before everything else)
A few things I haven't yet done are:
Replace O2 sensor
Run injector cleaner through the engine
Replace ECT sensor
Of the things I have done the problem has been 80% eliminated and is running much better and getting much better mileage than before but I thought I would ask you all what else you might suggest I try. Also how critical is the TPS adjustment (I just slapped it on)?
Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
