91 22re pickup code 14
1991 standard cab, 5-speed, 349,000 miles. The truck has episodes of rough running or missing that can be quite severe. The engine may quit without warning while driving. When it does, I turn the ignition off, then on. It immediately restarts and I continue driving. Trouble code 14 was first recorded in 2008 (when I learned how to retrieve codes) and always returns when cleared out. Work done to date: Plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor (twice, 2000 and 2008), oxygen sensor (code 21, 2008), new fuel filter (2008), new fuel pump (2009), new ignitor (2009), new ignition coil (2009), rebuilt distributor (2009), new coolant temperature sensor (2009), new vacuum modulator (2010), new vacuum tubing (2010), new battery cables (2010). Cleaned throttle body, cleaned EGR (test ok per fsm), removed and tested TVV (tests ok). Have gotten two used ECU's and truck runs same with either of three units installed. Problem can be intermittent. Today, drove to work with no trouble except some occasional light misses. Friday afternoon, on drive home, it missed bad and shut down 32 times in first 30 miles.

22re code 14
I think I got it fixed and it had nothing to do with code 14. Two weeks ago, a new symptom cropped up - a pulsing idle. (fast, slow, fast, slow. . . ) Disconnected the tps (because it was in front) and idle smoothed right out. Testing tps in place almost impossible so removed throttle body, cleaned, and tested tps as per FSM. Failed tests 2 and 3. Ordered new one and replaced last week. Problem gone. No missing, no dying. (knock on wood, hope, hope). So what did tps have to do with code 14 (IGf signal problem)? Spent (wasted?) mucho $$$ chasing that code 14.
