91 22re no start

Hey guys. I'm new to toyotas and I'm having a no start problem. Recently replaced head gasket, got everything reistalled, timing set at 5* BTDC and the engine will not start. It turns over fine just will not start without gas being sprayed in intake. Can spray gas into throttle body will run for a few seconds then quit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help. Matt

Was it running before the head gasket work?

Did you check that the injectors are plugged in? Is the AFM plugged in?

yea it was running when I took it apart and I reinstalled everything back the way it was. I jumped the turminals (can't remember their exact names) and the pump runs but it's just not getting fuel to the cylinders. Oh and I have an update on it. I was working on it today and it backfired while trying to start it and the entire engine bay burst into flames engulfing the ENTIRE engine bay in flames and melting alot of plastic. Can anyone tell me why it would backfire? I also know there was a fuel leak somewhere due to the size of fire

Did you connect a vacuum hose to the side of the fuel pressure regulator? (the lower, larger fitting?) That's the fuel return line and fuel comes out of it. I heard of someone connecting vac to that once & it started a fire.

I don't think so. I know it melted all my vacuum hoses so now I've got to replace them AND possibly find another wiring harness. The worst part is I STILL don't know why it wouldn't start
