swinging rear tire was optional (4Runners)
little spoiler thing over the rear hatch (4Runners)
31" tires verses 225/75's with two rim choices each
vinyl door panels verses cloth
power options or not
AC or not
Tach Pack or not
tilt steering or not
cruise control on the wheel or not
rear air conditioning/heating controls or not in 4runners
roof racks in 4Runners
power sunroof in 4runners as an option
clock or not
radio, radio + tape, or radio + cd (maybe tape) in two or 4 speaker options exterior chrome package
shift-on-the-fly 4wd drive (called 4WDemand by Toyota)
towing package or not
4cyl or V6
auto or manual
later 4runners had optional leather seating in addition to all of the above.
Buckets or bench in trucks
pop up and out sunroofs in trucks
sliding rear window or solid rear window in trucks
chrome fender trim or not
integrated running boards or plain mud flaps (4Runner)
optional push bumper (possibly 4runner only?)
courtesy lighting (Doors that had power options)
glove box lights or not
map lights surrounding rear view mirror or not
vinyl or cloth headliner
2 or 4 doors (4Runners up to 1992)
standard Cab or Xtra Cab (Pickups only)
short bed or long bed (long bed only available with standard cab)
later 4Runner's offered a special 4.88 gearing package (not sure of the stipulations on that...)
Vent windows or standard windows (trucks and 4Runners)
4 interior colors: Blue, Gray, Tan, Red (Red was later dropped, during the facelift?)
I think thats it, I'll add more if I think of them...
Edit: I forgot a few that other posters offered.
Carpet or Rubber factory floormats as an option
Mirrors in the sunvisors of trucks (not sure on the 4Runners, but most of the DLX trucks had no vanity mirrors)
Vanity Lighting for said mirrors (apparently came bundled with glove box light as well)
Tinted windows (Duh, I have these )
factory alarm (is it keyless entry as well?, 4Runners only I believe)
Intermittent Wipers on 4Runners, when available, I do not know. (unsure about the trucks, anyone chime in?)
Power rear window on 4Runner, I think the cargo light was standard equipment though.
On 2wd trucks, there was an upgrade package for increased capacity. heavier leafs, brakes, etc.
Also on 2wd trucks, I believe you could get them without a rear bumper, but I am unsure of that.
Apparently, the stripes we all have come to love and adore (hahaha) were actually an option, as far as I know.
SR5 Trucks and prolly almost all 4Runners came with a headlight on warning buzzer if you left your headlights on and pulled the keys
Have yet to see it on a 4wd, but some of the 2wd's had a strip of plastic body cladding between the front and rear wheels.
and there was actually a rare, dealer installed Roll Bar for the trucks. VERY uncommon, but it can be seen on youtube in a Toyota ad from 1989.
As far as I know, ALL the 4wd's had the skidplates factory installed, it wasn't an option that I've ever been aware of.
SR5 trims in the trucks included
Chrome exterior Mirrors, 3 spoke steering wheel with tilt, digital clock, upgraded seat fabric, usually bucket seats, 31" tire option, Tach Pack, optional chrome trim around the fender wells, optional cruise, optional power mirrors, windows, and locks, plus some other miscellaneous options from above list.
The worst part is, I know all this off the top of my head, and have figured it out through extensive browsing of catalogs, sales listings, photos, brochures, vehicles in person, and all by memory... I have no master list haha.
I AM a Toyota Pickup/4Runner junkie... and to think I could memorize more useful things...
Hope it helps!

How about the skid plates. Were they a standard install for all 4wd models or an option?
Finally I believe I read somewhere that there 3 skid plates installed by toyota at the factory, the 1 for the Front, 1 for the Transfer Case and a third for the gas tank?

Yeah I always wanted to see what options are on my truck and what is just standard feature.
I have a Xcab DLX 3.0 manual trans 4WD and I really don't think I've got much in the way of options.
Manual locks/windows, am/fm with cassette, manual seats no lumbar or anything.
What I wouldn't give to get a copy of my window sticker

Hope it helps!

ignition lock courtesy light was an option... part of the courtesy light package that included the glove box light and vanity mirror light... mine does'nt have it
no rear bumper was on the base model 2wd, you got 2 little black plastic "bump stops" under the rear lights ... bumper was optional
intermitant wipers were a stnd. part of the DLX/SR5 packages (or at least were on every truck I've seen)
Sport Bucket seats were a stnd. part of the SR5 package, the split bench was a very rare option...[just the standard split bench but with the SR5 fabric on it]

most of the DLX's don't have the headlight chime. maybe part of the courtesy light package?
Good tidbit on the lighting stuff though.
and thanks for the tire thing, I was unsure of it!

4runners came with 6 speakers with the premium sound package, no? mine had 2 in the dash, 2 in the side panels of the cargo area, and two tweeters up top by the cargo light...
