90 4runner wont start

I was recently given a 4runner from a friend who has let it set for about 2 years now. I drained the gas tank charged put in fresh gas charged the battery and started trying to start it. As long as I am using starter fluid it will stay running. I loosened the banjo fittings on both sides of the carb and gas started dripping out, so I an getting fuel to the carb. Could there be a problem with the EFI and if so how do I check it. This is my first EFI toyota and I dont know where to start. I did check the fuses marked EFI next to the battery.

I think I may have found something. I think the fuel filter is clogged. I am assuming the fuel pump is electric, is this right?

fuel pump is electric. it is turned on whenever you turn the key to start the truck, and when sufficient air flow passes though the air-flow-meter (on top of the air filter).

sounds like you have the same problem i delt with yesterday and how long was it sitting before it decided not to start because the fuel tends to drain out of the system in our rigs and the system needs to be repressurized which your fuel pump can do by just trying to start it multiple times. it took me about twenty minutes for mine to repressurize plus check all intake and vuccum lines to make sure they are correctly connected

I am considering relocating the fuel filter to a more convient location. The person who picked its present location needs to be the one trying to take it off now. I will try to keep cranking on it and see what happens. Thanks.

Yea to repressureize the system just turn the key to the ON position for 3-5 sec, then turn the key to the lock position then back to the ON position. Repeat if needed lol.

Good luck.
