'90 4Runner Engine rebuild or swap?
#21
X2. Add 2 more cents from me also. I didn't sell my 3.4 swapped truck because I wasn't happy with it. It done everything I asked it to and I didn't have to worry about it when romping on it.
I wanted a 4runner for more room inside, but I'm going with a V8.
BTW I have a complete 3.4 with an automatic for sale.

So I ran a leak down test and had air coming out the exhaust manifold for the cylinder with no compression...Pulled the head thinking it was a burnt exhaust valve. However, the valves really dont look bad. Now Im lost. Cylinder had significantly more black carbon than the others. Pics may suck but its the best i Can do with my phone haha
Advice? I dont wanna just put it back together because I havent fixed the problem. Could it have just been a blown head gasket or am I missing something thats right infront of my face?

Update, I tore it down to the bare block and deglazed all the cylinders but some vertical marks remain. How bad would it be for me to just put new rings in and let it ride? Boring it out would get a little expensive and out of my range...
