89 Toyota Pickup with code 52
Hey guys, I bought this 89 Toyota Pickup with 22re and it had a CEL. Found 2 codes, 41 and 51, got that fixed with a new TPS (Guy before me put the wrong one on), and now I have code 52 for the knock sensor, and I've been told to check the pig tail but I have no idea what I'm looking for.
Another quick question I have for you guys is how can I get a little more power of of the motor? I plan on running 31s soon, so i want a little more oomph. The Guy told me he had it rebuilt 10,000 miles ago, but I don't know if he's telling the truth. It definitely has a new head on it though. Its got no AC, no PS, no 4wd, absolutely nothing, it weighs in at 2490lbs with a full tank and it gets up and moves for being a little 4 cylinder. I've already made a custom intake to get rid of the stock airbox (90* bend off the throttle body to the MAF to a cone filter right where the battery use to sit). I plan on getting headers, but I want to know where else I can get some power from. I'm not afraid to open her up for some other mods, but I am on kind of a budget. What do you guys recommend?
Thanks guys,
Daniel.

A battery/airbox swap will get you a little more throttle response.
As far as power boosters there's not much you can do to the 22re on the cheap. Of course you can always do some porting to the intake and throttle body if you know what you're doing. Then you're getting into different heads, cams and stuff like that.

That's what I have when I said I made my intake, except I moved my battery to my toolbox and ran 0/1 gauge wire to everything. So I am interested in headers, cams, and messing with the heads a bit, just needs some insight on brands, info, etc
It does have quite a bit of power as it sits now. I can chip 2nd gear pretty easy, but I'm always looking at room for improvement.

I don't personally have any experience with any of these companies, but I have these links saved and A LOT of people on here have gotten upgrades from these people and speak very highly of them.

Why did you put the battery in the toolbox? what kind of plans do you have for that space now?

I plan on starting to build a prerunner, so I'm starting to slowly renovate the engine bay to start cutting out the fenderwells, and make room for shock hoops/engine brace, I want to remove the core supports, get rid of windshield washer reservoir and accesories, move Radiator to the bed (when it has a cage) and get the McNeil Tundra conversion fiberglass.
So I will be prerunning this thing and want to get as much power as I can.

Anyone know much about this code 52 for the knock sensor circuit? I have been reading about the pigtail, and shielding negative wires, and it is totally confusing to me and i have no idea what or where to look for.
Any help? Thanks,
Daniel

Hey guys, I need some help with this code, I cant seem to figure it out. It is code 52 for the knock sensor, but the truck is running perfect? Ive read that when that code comes on its because the timing is too advanced and when it starts to knock because of it, it will retard the timing and make it run piss poor.
So i adjusted my timing anyways, it was a bit off, got it at 5* BTDC with TE1 and E1 jumped. And the code still persists.
Ive read that it is often the pigtail, but i am clueless as to what people mean by that? Im guessing thats where all the wires split off from each other? Does anyone have pics or a good how to?
Thanks in advance guys!
