89-95 Front Clip Removal? Xtreme 4x4 Toyota SAS
Did anyone catch Extreme 4x4 on the Toyota SAS this weekend?
Did you guys notice how he took the entire front clip off the truck.
I have done this on Chevy's but I thought the Yota's inner fenders were welded to the cab. Anyone know if the front clip unbolts like a chevy?
This would make doing an engine swap or sas a helluva lot easier.

Yea not sure how they could have possibly done that without cutting. The only Toyota Vehicle that used bolt on inner fenders (in America) was the Landcruiser. The 40, 60, and 80 series all had bolt together front ends. The 100 series is all welded now. All 4runners, trucks, and ALL cars toyota ever made were welded.
Reason? Less labor as machines can do it all, methinks.

He said that the front was all welded up. He said that most domestics were bolted together, but that the imports were usually welded on. He also said that most people aren't gonna dovetail the front end on a Yota when they are first doing everything.

they used a plasma cutter and just cut it off, since there gona narrow it and do an engine swap on it.

It's not easy to do, but you set the depth and it drills out the weld pretty well...

I'm going to cut my front clip and fenders out when I do my 350 swap. My core support is bent up pretty good anyways, and I might have to move it in order to get the 350 where I want it.

I cut mine off of the 89 reg cab I had. I used a 4.5 cutoff wheel and went about an inch out from the actual cab/firewall. It took no time at all, there are just a few places that are double walled and a little wider than the cutoff wheel. No big deal.
I never thought of reusing it and making something removable. It would actually be really easy to do. You could have a latch in each fender well and put a hinge on the bottom of the core support, and have it swing forward. The real pain in the ass would be relocating everything on the inner fender wells. It could be done though.

Ian stated exactly what you said. If you remember, he is bobbing and dovetailing the truck at the same time. I have the whole episode downloaded to my laptop so I can watch it again. If you go to their website, you can buy the video for $1.99 per part (2 part series recorded earlier this year).
couldent find where to buy the episodes at? can you tell me where to find it?
i would be even cooler if you dident mind emailing the shows to me...? mike@julieonline.com you dont have to if you dont want too..
im jelous of you people that have cable/ direct tv
thanks!

That episode was on last weekend. That one and 1st part are on all the time. He said it was a tight fit but not tight enough that they would have to move everything back.
