89 4runner, non running engine

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about cars, as my name suggests I'm a dumb teenager that knows how to shift gears and push the accelerator.

I was handed down the 89 4runner when I turned 16 and drove it until my 1st semester of college, in that time we had to fix a hydraulic fluid hose for the clutch, and the 5th gear and 5th gear sync in the transmission, my dad went ahead and replaced the clutch as well.

at 304,000 miles the engine stopped working, what I mean is it runs but only if you're working the throttle, it won't idle. My dad took it to the family mechanic and they told me that the head gasket blew and then a cylinder fused? or something like that I didn't understand it, so I'm asking your help giant toyota forumn, I love my 4runner, I miss having a reliable 4wheel drive vehicle, my current 4cyl single leg ranger isn't cutting it -.-

first sell the ford, then pat your self on the back for a job well done! (maybe opinionated, if you disagree just ignore it) see if you can get it to idle at all, then start checking for any vacuum leaks by spraying starting fluid around all the gasket/joint areas on the intake tube, throttle body and intake manifold. then do a compression check, check your timing, check your TPS (throttle positioning sensor).. how to do all of this can be found on this sight by using the search function.

do this, come back with your findings and we will have you a solution (or good suggestion) then.. good luck man!

do what is suggested, sell the ford and use that money to fix the yota, even if that means u have to pull the motor and replace it, i would rather have the 4runner over a ranger any day. but yeah check your compression, if there water in your oil? u get heavy white smoke when u are running? after checking the items above then u can make the decision to look for a used motor or have yours rebuilt.
