89 4runner dilemma

Here is my situation that I'm hoping for advice on. There is a nice 89 4runner (250k miles, manual trans., V6) that I am considering buying. Very good condition cosmetically. The owner said it overheated a few months ago and he kept driving until white smoke started billowing out the back. Then he parked it and hasn't driven it since.

- It is likely that I can just do the head gasket and be done with it or did he likely cause more damage?
- I am thinking of offering him $1000, is it worth it?
- What else should I look for before buying it?

Thanks for your help!

Jesse

Most likely it has done other damage. Crankshaft, rods, etc.

$1000 is TOO high. 250K miles on a v6 with a HG, or both. no way. I paid $1300 for my '88 22re in near perfect condition with service records going back to 1988.
