88 truck 5spd help

Sigh, you guys have helped me a lot this past week, but now i'm inna bind again, i've read most of the tips and stuff on re-installing a 5 spd tranny when doing a clutch install. well, i have the pressure plate etc on, and i'm trying to get the tranny back on, problem is, it's just me doing the work, no helpers, and no friends, minus my wife, who tried, but when i said "left" she went "right". So i have an atv lift under the main support that bolts to the t-case/tranny and a hyraulic jack to support the front of the bellhousing. i've tried turning the flange the front driveline connects to, to turn, and try to align the splines to go into the flexplate, etc. So for a 1 person job, this is starting to wear my patience thin, and my nerves, from almost getting squashed when the tranny almost slips off the atv lift, and the jack in front. i have a ratchet strap under the front bellhousing just so it won't hit the 'crete driveway if it does fall. so any other idea's before i officially go bonkers?

one person i saw used straps to hold it up and if u put it in gear and turn the back plate u can get the splines to line up then, also sometimes u need to get one bold in to help get it to go. i know on mine i did. then they all went.

Unfortunately I would say its a 2 person job. In my honest opinion anyway. Its a lot of pushing and wiggling.

i dunno if i posted pics or not but thats how i did it...i used a ratchet strap around the front near the belhousing..(where it slopes down) and another towards the xfer case...both of em around the frame and the tighter you put it the more it lifts it..worked flawlessly..i had to reposition the straps once or twice when i was pushing it forward but you just support it with a jack and release the strap and put it back on......did this with my F-150 with a MONSTER 5spd xfer case combo too

If I read that correctly, you are trying to align the front drive shaft and the clutch splines at the same time. IF so,, loose the front driveshaft and put that in after the trans/x case are finished.

I assume your clutch alignment tool slides in the clutch pack flawlessly.

Be slow and try not to tear up the clutch plate with the trans input shaft and find a second pair of hands.

Cool beans thanks ya'll i'm goin to try all the above. my dad is an old fart too and has a lot of probs cuz of his stroke, but he's gonna try an be my 2nd hands. I'm not sure how to copy, post the quotes yet, but sportsman, i have both drive lines out. what i was referring to was turning the flange where they bolt up to turn the splines. but it may not work i guess if the tranny an t-case were both in neutral when it was taken out.

i also seem to have lost a few of the bolts but that's not a prob, i just want to get the trans hooked up before i take off to alaska for 5 weeks. The few bolts i "misplaced" somewhere (i think my truck got mad at me for taking so long and ate them) i can get off my 90 runner in fairbanks, or my other 88 if my boss didn't scrap it out, i hope not btw. I'm also planning on getting my top end kit with my new head from my 90 runner if it's still all there, after all it's been 2 years since i left it there. Last but not least if there's any lil doodads, knobs etc, that anyone may need lemme know.

Crud, i got to alaska, and my laptop died when i got there, couldn't afford a new one, so there i sat in fairbanks for 5 weeks, no laptop to post pics of all the old yota parts at my old job at the salvage yard. Anyways, wife loves it there, so i'm moving back in 4 weeks, for? I guess till my wife realizes -50 isn't fun, 9 months of the year is the winter and darkness, and it's bad on trucks, lol. I can't find a where or how to post a "for sale"...NM found it.
