88 4runner won't start. Not getting fuel thru the injectors. HELP plz!

Ok so heres what I've got. An 88 modle 4 runner that was suppose to have jumped time. We put on a new timming chain got it lined up to tdc tried to start it and it won't. We realized its not getting fuel when we pulled the #1 plug out and it was bone dry.we checked to make sure that it was getting fuel to the injector rod and it was but its not comming out of tge injectors themselves. Could you kind of give me an idea as to where to start. Oh and the fuel pump is working fine.

Did you check to see if it actually had jumped time before you removed the old timing chain? Otherwise you may have just discovered the real issue as opposed to someone's unsubstantiated guess.

Here is a link to how I went about fixing mine. I tried to make it from easiet to hardest first. There are several checks involved but not to hard to do. The worse might be the little clips inside the harness.

Link...Post #666 https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...9/index27.html

Check that the ground is on the intake manifold.
Check you solenoid resistor.
Check your EFI Main Relay.
88 Injectors are different from the rest but it is listed in one of the links and the pages refer to the Haynes manual.

Ya it had jumped time. timing marks were way off before the old chain was took off. its was also cranking real slow. Before we checked that. Cranks fine now just no fuel past the fuel rail. We know a couple of the injectors have dry rotted seals. We have took them off and are going to replace them. And also I'm going to check out those web sites and check those things that terry87 suggested. I'll be back to let you know if any of them work. Guys thank for the responses. I greatly appriciate the help.

I cant see all 4 injectors being plugged so I am thinking there is something else holding them down. Hopefully one of the suggestions Iposted above will get you going.

One suggestion I would like to make as I learned the hard way and could of had a BBQ on wheels but I found it before any fires broke out. Put some oil, gasoline, vaseline or something on the little O-rings before putting the injectors into the fuel rail. There is a very good possiblity of knicking one of the O-rings and it will leak fuel bad. It doesnt take much of a knick either. Somewhere on my 88 build I show a picture of the knick in the O-ring. It wasnt much but alot of fuel leaked.

Thumbs up

Your right not all of the injectors are bad just one. My husbands gonna replace the o rings on all of them. clean the others and take it from there. It will be a couple days before we will know the outcome. kinda have to work on it when we get time. We are gonna try some of your other suggestions as well. Thanks again for the tips found alot of helpful things. Be back soon.

Since it is only one injector giving you problems you may not need to go as far as listed. The connector is a poor design. Probably not making contact with the injector itself. Check the pins inside the connector.

If you want to go a step further I think some even take newer connections from a 89,90,91 model or so and wire them in. They have a little push tab which is way better.

I will keep an eye on this post but if I miss it some how just PM me. I dont think yours will be near the trouble I went thru and but it could be a bigger issue. Good luck.
