88 22re Issues

I bought somebody else's project that needed an engine and have a timing issue after the swap. It sounds the same(tries to start) regardless if the ecm is plugged up or not and the check engine light comes on when the switch is off(with the ecm plugged up).

check the ground that originates from the ecm wiring harnes and attaches to the rear half of the lower/upper intake junction. its well hidden.

what sort of swap?

the ignitor will generate spark while cranking even if the ecu may be failing- that's how it works. once the engine is running the ecu takes over timing control.

so you're not giving enough 411 to troble shoot.
22re to 22re swap, I'm not familiar with toyotas at all. Base timing is dead on and it's getting fuel. If the ground wire your talking about has a few wires coming from it and falls close to the starter then I actually hooked that up to the positive side and that would explain everything.

It was the ground wire, it's fixed now.
