87 yota pickup 4x4 slight knock help
i have 87 pickup 4x4 22r carb 5spd 208k on body motor rebuilt bout 6 years ago no idea on miles on it but it has a slight know at about 3k rpm doesnt knock at idle or when giving gas just if you hold it around 3k you can barely hear it. doesnt burn any oil and runs good any idea what it could be without hearing it and what i could do to quieten it down. and does anyone else have the problem of when you put it in reverse you knock it in 4wd thanks for any help

Sounds like rod knock, or possibly wrist pins. Does it make all kinds of noise when you first start it? If so, definitely rod bearings. You should probably start saving for your rebuild. It may last a long time before it gives out, but just know you are on borrowed time.
You can run a thicker oil to help quiet it down. Some guys will even run up to 20w50.

Short answer... Yes you can, but With IFS its a little more time consuming than with a straight axle. You have to drop the dif and everything. If its wrist pins then you have to pull the motor. I had a pretty distinct knock in mine when I got it that happened when barely putting on or letting off the gas and at anything above 3k rpm. lasted me 3k miles before it spun a bearing.... Should gotten to it sooner. I would save for a rebuild if I were you, but dont wait till it spins.. I had to get a new crank and connecting rods as a result of waiting to long. 2 months and 1200 bucks later i practically have a brand new motor! Currently have about 150 miles on it and it is running great!

ok thanks i think im just gonna run it till it blows and buy a crate motor for it. its just my toy truck and i only paid 1000 for it not a daily driver so it wont hurt me if it does blow ive replaced a 22re before and its not that bad plus this one is carbed so not as many wires
