87 manual trany question

Hi all, over the weekend I pulled my engine from my 87 4runner with the 22re. I tried to take the motor out with the bell housing and trany attached. After figuring out that the trany is alot longer than I thought, I pulled only the motor out. First, I tried to unbolt the trany where I thought it ended. I think that the trany is built in two pieces? I put the bolts back in the place where I took it apart and now it leaks. Is there a gasket in that spot, or is it even possible to separate the two pieces of the trany?

I took it out by unbolting the engine from the bell housing.

You took it apart at the transfer adapter. So, you'll need to reseal it.
This is a diagram of the whole unit:

But, more descriptions are here:

Wow, thanks, that helps out alot. Is is possible to unbolt the t-case adapter from the trany, or is there gears inside holding it together.
