i have an 1987 toyota 4runner 22re w56b

And my mission is to keep maybe about 70% of my truck stock.

So near the very end of 2011 i started overhauling the engine, the truck sat for more then 10 years in my backyard. Mainly kept the engine stock, what wont be stock is the interior since i'm making a costume dash out of fiberglass.

From what has been done, Well there's the:

Injectors
Flywheel
Clutch Disc
Water Pump
Gaskets
Stabilizer Bar Bushings
Brake pads
Cylinders have been bored
Fuel Pump Filter
After Market Water Temp. Gauge
Little Vacum hose on Throttle Body
and a new battery

i thought it would be more, but luck is on my side.

Currently Working on the Dash and going to buy a new/used w56b tranny, i can hear in second and a little in third gear that they're chipped gears. Also replacing my slave's rubber, spring, and piston.

I like taking a max of three things at once, in the future i'll do mainly the interior and a few electrical things.

Hello fellow yotals , so continuing on...

I use a slave repair kit about a week ago, now i have smoother shifting A+. And i've painted some interior pieces today.


Used Flat White, 80/320 grit sand paper for a smoother look. The vynle fabric will be rapped around the panel using a Heat Gun and 3M adhesive.

I wired and temp mounted this stereo about 2 weeks ago. Had left over wires and one male & female plugs.




It's a Boss, have two 4" alpine speaker to go with them, clear as day. Did all the wiring myself. If anyone wants those 2 plugs just pm.

Now about 3 weeks after having a drive-able ride i put in this SunPro Temp. Gauge(Mechanical) since the one in the dash cluster was fried(tested). I average between 140-152, i had put a larger aftermarket radiator.





It wont be around to long, going to get some autometer gauges. Kinda wish i had used a electric one instead, less hassle. And the gauge also measures the heat under the hood not just on the Lower Plenum.

Also forgot about showing my Costume Fiberglass center console, hand sowed shifter boot, and fab work.

Gonna swap the switches with nicer aftermarket ones.


After that my fingers didn't want to see a niddle again.


Used a hammer, grinder, 2 pieces of 2x4 held down on a table by one C-clamp and one Racket bar clamp. Plus my two hands.

That's pretty good for a Rookie, if i do say myself. And i'm only 20yo.

So in three days i'll add a layer or two of fiberglass to my rear panel since it's too weak to rap the fabric on(standards, huh?). And i'm also looking into a free flow exhaust system, anyone know a cheap Steel system, i also weld.

Lookin good dude, just bought an 87 myself, and recently got it running. Almost put 2000 miles on her now and working out the bugs.lol good work!

Keep in mind if you are running between 140-152 deg it is not reaching operating temperature. You will burn more gas, and as well as build carbon inside the motor much quicker. Now you will probably run a little cooler with a larger radiator, but the thermostat should be regulating the temp.

That's what i get mainly since i drive to work at 5:30am in a 2.5 mile 8 minute drive. Going from 1st to 2nd gear, then 3rd and 4th, back down to 3rd and 2nd, and parking. That's slipping into neutral and costing into a full stop and shutting the end off. Morning are cold in the desert, and thats just a very short drive, my highest temp. reading was 164 degrees and that's the beginning after i overhauled my engine, driving for 3 hours around the city weather mid 70's. Also my engine maybe 85% complete, and there are still a few electric issues that affect my 22re from operating at full capacity, and i can see it in my milage, aver. 11.233 mpg combined.

I think i took it to far in explaining my temp. reading, and my bad if it comes off as a negative attitude. when life gives you ice, make a lemon snow-cone. :p

'83 Toyota P/U with a early '85 22r.
Will see if i can make a thread about that Project.
Building since early 2013, little steps because of available time.
