87 22re 4Runner exhaust (CA)
Hey guys... just waned to tap in on your expertise...
I've got an 87 4Runner with a 22RE. Its a daily driver and I would like to get a little better mileage out of it and increase performance a bit. I was thinking of doing a cat/muffler swap with a better system. Would this have a +/- effect on fuel economy?
I'm thinking of doing a manifold back system with a CA legal hi flo cat (if I can get one) and a new muffler, possibly doing a side dump before the rear axle. What size piping would you recommend? I'm looking for a deeper sounding system, not too ricey. Anything you guys can recommend? anything wrong with my ideas?
Also, price is a factor, so I would probably be trying to stay under $200 if possible (maybe buy used)
Thanks in advance!

2.25" is a good size for the 22re
Try a flowmaster muffler ( find one used if price is a problem)
Cats are going to run to close to 100 bones for a decent one.
Im really not too sure on the restrictions for CA vehicles though..

I hate to say it..... but do a search. Search 22re exhaust system. You'll get a billion. I'm running a Magnaflow cat (53005) and muff (11255), sounds good. I found it here by doing a search. Good luck.
PS. I also have the LCE header. IMO the best header for the money on the market. Stainless steel and ceramic coated for $358.00 Like a sore ____, you can't beat it.
