Started my timing chain replacement got cover off figured I'd replace the head gasket. Decided ima just buy a new head and install. May be in over my head but I'm goin for it. I'm down to the intake side of engine, start on that tomorrow. While I'm elbow deep in this what else should I be doing? I'm a newb to this much engine work but pretty mechanically inclined. I'm open to any input?!?!

And also when I get the new head is there anything I will need to do to it? Or is it ready to put in. It's a complete cylinder head I ordered off eBay with a gasket set. Do I have to do valve adjustment? Or anything else... Please forgive me as I said this is pretty new to me

You will need to reset the valve lash once you have it all back together. Also depending on the mileage you might want to consider replacing the water pump and/or oil pump while you are in that far. Also all the little stuff that will be easily accessible while you have it apart, belts, wires, plugs that you will already need to move to the new head, hoses as well. the bypass hose from the side of the water pump that feeds into the metal U pipe tends to get weird and crusty before the others and is a total pain in the ass to replace when everything is together. Dont forget the bolt from the head to the chain case that is hiding under the oil pooled beneath the gear for the distributor. You will also want to make sure you keep the location of the chain case bolts straight as it is easy to get them confused. Good luck and take your time.
