im still working all the bugs outta the new toy and this fuel gauge not working is about to drive me nuts when i got it i found a black wire coming out of the gauge that someone had plugged in to my fuse box wich was making it read full i would assume that the sending unit's level would go to that wire with more or less power going to it to show full or low that would make sense to me? what i was thinking is to take that wire that was in the fuse box and splicing it into the wire that runs the resistance to the gauge but im not sure wich wire in the 3 wire harness that is any help or suggestions?

While this manual is for a '93, I suspect that the general arrangement is the same. Note that the sender GROUNDS the signal from the gauge. So you have power to the gauge (through the ignition switch) then to the sender. So if you have a wire coming out of the gauge connected to the fuse box, connecting that wire to the sender should do nothing.

well heres my thing when i hook up the wire to the fuse box as soon as i turn the switch it pegs out as reading that and a thing i found on google to understand how they work ive learned that the more power going to the gauge the higher it will read so id say that wire there should be the one hooked to the harness that reads the voltage from the sending unit its self i believe all the wiring is right and when i shake the truck i can here the sending unit move back and forth on like i do any other vehicle so i dought the unit its self is my problem i just wanted to know more about what im working with so i dont waste my time running this wire to find out that its not going to work like im thinking everything im reading says o just test the ohms well i cant do that and get accurate readings with a wire un plugged and not knowing wich wire that is i really need somebody that has had the similer problem to help me diagnose what color wires do what
