86 with factory SA?

Guy local selling an 86 22re 5spd with solid front axle. Anyone know if they sold off remaining 85 models as 86's? For$1000 on the road I am looking at it seriously. The thing is bone stock with the expected body rot but the frame looks good. He says needs head or HG replaced. Have not heard it running yet.Maybe the VIN number will tell me what it had from factory if I go to the dealer? Thanks, Mike

nope. 86 was IFS. You can check the production date on the truck inside the driver door. Could be an import though. Check out the vin.

4rnr or pickup? I thought the pickups went entirely with IFS a little bit later.

As far as I know, everything switched over in 86 for Pickups and 4runners. I would check the title and the plate inside the door.

I hadn't heard that, but i guess it's possible. I assumed they went IFS same time as the 4runners.

It's a definite. '85 was the last year for production of SFA's on U.S. vehicles. Aug/'85....to be exact. However, no one where I called has any idea if any "leftovers" were sold as '86. You will need the VIN to verify.

if the previous owner(s) didnt install it then it was probably sold new in 86' as an 86' model.
