86 4x4 22rte flooding no injector pulse
I have studied for hours trying to figure out this bug. I have checked pigtials for injectors. deloomed and inspected wire harness from injectors to ecu. Changed ecu, ignitor, coil, fuel pump, fuel filter, wires above manifold, injector resistor. Checked all grounds, fuses. truck has NO diagnosis port by the fuse box.Still no pulse? flooding the lower intake manifold! pulled dist and rotate..still no pulse to injector. Good spark! Intake grounds are good. I have read most all of the threads/posts here and with google. this problem took time to develop. I am at my wits end here.. Any help with this will be appreciated!!

did swap ecu with one I have from a 2wd 22rte. added an alligator clip to ecu body/chassis.
Not sure how to check pulse signal from computer,!!
did swap out ecu!!. What does this port look like? Is it two yellow plugs in a rubber-mold? I do have those! Not sure what they do though..

um... lol?
how did you check injector pulse? both wires should have 12v on them with just the key on but not running and one goes to ground for a pulse and all injectors fire at the same time. so maybe check you have 12v on both wire before you start cranking. if you dont it could be the resistor on the fender is bad if you have one (*nevermind you said you replaced it). maybe check and solder all the injector splices too
if your flooding, it may be the cold start injector causing it since it injects fuel when its cold and your trying to start (cranking) the engine and shuts off when you release the key. maybe unplug that to see if your flooding goes away.

Here is a link to check the codes once you pull them.

Those ports are pretty handy. I borrowed an idea from 4crawler and made up a little switch panel under the hood so I won't have to jump the terminals again, just flip the switch and check for codes.

I used a stethoscope to listen for the clicks. Found no clicking. When I cleaned the injectors on the bench, they all spray a nice mist when energized. I deloomed the wire harness from the injectors to the ecu, complete tape removal. Seen all the splices are in good condition for the injectors and where they all twine together, down bt the a/c pump is in good working order. I will test for codes Now that I have an idea! lol Thank you BassMastry101 for the great info! You have been great help so far! much appreciation for your insight.

What I meant was check the voltages at the injectors to make sure you have power, If not check at the ECU.
I'm going to source back to 4crawler again, lol. This might give you a better idea of how the components and injectors are wired.

You have mentioned possible flooding and then your injectors not firing...if your injectors are not firing how can your engine be flooded? The cold start injector provides extra fuel when the engine is cold to allow for easier starts, but I'm pretty sure the cold start injector does not provide enough fuel to flood an engine.
When I cleaned the injectors on the bench, they all spray a nice mist when energized.
This is directly from a Toyota training manual on Toyota Fuel Injection Systems:-
Toyota says never to apply battery voltage directly to a low resistance (impedence) injector to test it , because doing so can overheat and damage the windings
in the solenoid. Use a resistor wire to protect the injector.

well.. I have got it to start on spray.. Unplugged the csinjector and removed excess fuel from engine. Bam..started n ran till spray was gone.. Inj. Resistor checks in at 12v and about 4 ohms. I did check this resistor at much less than room temp. Book says ohms should be less. Ecu is getting 12v+ . Changed distributor also.( I got a few spare parts).. How to test ecu for a ground reference for the injectors?

ecu is not getting the signal to pulse the injectors. 12v at eo1/e02. Injector resistor checks out. 12v at injectors. STARTS with starting fluid.I believe the coil ignitor is not sending a signal, or the wiring to the ecu from the ignitor is at fault. Can I test the coil ingitor signal to ecu and how? Still no pulse...but closer -~

Update.. Code 14 now.. no igf to ecu according to later model 22re chart. It is a 1986 4x4 22rte. Early chart says turbo/ecu/afm possible fault. Not sure whick catagory this model falls into.. How can I test igf at/to ecu???????? Kev

We have got it! I did change the coil/ignitor with one I had pulled from a parts truck a few years ago. Turns out this parts ignitor was just as fried as the one I replaced. I took the ignitor and coil from my Dads 4runner and........ BAM! All is well! Runs like it should.
I want to thank you ALL!! This has been an experience I wont soon forget and I surely do appreciate ALL OF YOTATECH!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Kevin
