'86 22RE problems-blown coolant

okay guys, gotta call from an old friend last night and he said his toyota 22RE blew up...well i figured it had a bad knock and a rod through the block..that's my idea of blown up.

well i get there..coolant is everywhere..the radiator cap blew off? and it will turn over just fine, but will not fire?

anybody got any ideas from that little bit of info? i'm doing a compression test on it real soon because he said it turns over like it has no compression but he's not a very bright kid LOL

truck has quite a few miles on it..somewhere around 250,000 or so..it's his daily driver..

so i'm gonna try to help a friend out, if not then i'll prolly sell him my '80 for cheap just to get him by.

Possibly head gasket, even though I don't think the 22R is known for that.

If you have a coolant system pressure tester, test the system and cap and see if it holds pressure. If it does, refill with water (for now) or coolant and maybe replace the cap, depending on how it tested and how old it is.

Of course, checking the compression is next, like you're going to do.

Anything past that is purely a guess until more information becomes available.
