Question 84 to 88 gauge cluster upgrade??

I have the cheap model pickup, with the small gas tank, 4 speed tranny and minimal instruments. I'm not sure about the bother of the whole SR5 gauge upgrade, in terms of time or expense, since the parts on eBay are now going for over $100 for the ones I've looked at.

For the simple gauge cluster that has the temperature on the left, speedo in the center and fuel on the right (and a bunch of idiot lights), is it possible to replace just the fuel gauge with the combination fuel and battery gauge? I saw one on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/84-88...spagenameZWD1V for $12, which isn't bad (but the shipping is ridiculous). I've never pulled the gauges out so don't know how they fit together. If this works, I could eventually find the left side gauges and have a tach-less SR5 gauge setup, which is more in keeping with the minimalist interior of my truck Are these parts still available from Toyota as new (replacement) parts?

And a more general gauge question: since I have the smaller gas tank (I think it's something like 13 gallons), will replacing the gas gauge affect the fuel level measurement? I'm guessing the answer is no, but just wanted to confirm before proceeding
