7.5 or 8.0 diff???

i think it is a 7.5 but i get mixed results when i try to search the web . most links just talk about 4wd rear ends. if it is a 7.5 i should be able to order a master install kit for a front 7.5 ifs diff.

All 4 wheel drive rear-ends were at least 8in, however the 2 wheel drives can have either a 7.5in or a 8in rear-end. What are the first two letters/numbers of your vin? What is your axel code(should be on the plate inside the driver side door jam, and it is a letter followed by three numbers)?

i dont see an axle code the only code i found was, c/tr 202/fj11 a/tm a01a/w55 the oil drian plug is on the passenger side if that helps the vin starts with 4tarn81a3

Yes, you have a 7.5 inch ring gear, and according to the axel chart you have 3.42 gears (this is not written in stone), and it is a 2 pinion open diff.

for reference, all 4WD trucks came with an 8" rear end, 2 pinion differentials for the 4 cylinder trucks and 4 pinion differentials for the 6 cylinder trucks.
2wd trucks had 3 rear end possibilities.
7.5" rear end in a 2 pinion form or an 8" rear end with either a 2 pinion or a 4 pinion setup.
ALL V6 trucks 2wd or 4wd, would have the 4 pinion 8" rear end from factory.
now, whether or not you have a 7.5 inch rear end or an 8" rear end can only be determined by the axle code or a visual reference.
it appears you have a US built truck, which makes it a lot harder to decode the axle. unfortunately for you, there are many complete axle decoding tables for Japan built trucks, but very few rather sketchy tables for US built trucks.
I believe that the 7.5" carrier is going to look different from either version of the 8" carrier. if you know anyone with a 4runner or 4wd pickup, take a look at their differential and compare it to your own. preferably a 4 cylinder 4wd pickup, as that would be the closest thing to yours. you would be able to see right away if it was a 7.5" rear end or an 8" rear end.

I'm looking into an aussie locker so I was kinda wondering the same thing.
I found this website a few mins ago.

Half way down the page it talks about the rear diff.
But what now is confusing me is the website says
Aussies website has lockers for 8" rear gear 30 spline or 7.5" rear gear 27 spline.
I presume I still need the 8" rg 30 spline but I just want some reassurance before ordering.

Basically he is right.
Where you highlighted his quote, it is talking about 27 spline PINION shaft. This is where your driveshaft flange is bolted on to your pinion(the big nut holds it on).
What you are wanting to know is about axle splines and ring gears. Yes the 86-95 rears are 8" ring gear and 30 spline axles. UNLESS it is 2 wheel drive.
What you see on the site might be talking about front lockers.
Sorry I had a whole bunch of info written, but it got erased when I whent to post.
Post up your vehicle information and I will try to help you out. (truck or runner, 2or4 wheel drive, and engine info)

A01A axle code.
Therefore, he has a 7.5", 3.42, 2 pinion diff.
The 4cyl 2wd trucks did NOT come with an 8" diff.
