5 speed trans noise

Really cool site, maybe someone can answer this one.
1992 22re 5spd 2wd
Replaced flywheel,clutch assy {new} torqued, reistalled,hookedup everything
clutch works great smooth release no noise from pilot or throwout, but at about 50mph sounds like the exh/trans is rattling or buzzing in 5th gear only
come and goes with rpm, checked all the obivious culprits, exh shield, cat shield, exh clamp bracket @ trans, I'm stumped, did not make this or any other noise prior to this, used overhead lift and trans jack, was carfull of mainshaft ect, didnt unhook exh @ manifold , didnt stess engine when supporting, could I have broke something loose I/m missing, Help! Skid

Welcome!

Did you mark the drive shaft to make sure you installed it exactly the same way it was taken off? If its rotated a bit then that could cause a vibration.

Mine used to do that too. If I would hold the shifter, and push just a tad forward on it in 5th, the sound went away.

It went away all together when I installed the Marlin Crawler Heavy Duty Shifter Seat & Socket.

It's one of the more popular upgrades/mods folks do on this site. Just buy 'em now. Because we talk EVERYBODY into getting them eventually. And you'll see why when you put 'em in there. Makes all kinds of shifter troubles disappear, and makes new transmissions even better because they'll last 100x longer than the stock parts. Cheap and easy to install too!

Only lost a small amount of gear lube used a tailshaft plug,
old pilot was still good a little loose after 186,000
mainshaft pilot was not worn fit new brg snug, I replace the shift bushing at
105,000 cause she jumped out of gear, I did not pay it much attention
this time as it shifted well, as I said it could be my problem, I'll snach the
boot off again and change it, oh yeah the bell bracket is ok, is 5th gear
direct on this trans, I have no breakdown, surly it's not the mainshaft
brg.Throwout pressure would tell me if it's bad. Skid

well..I replaced the shifter seat with a factory yota one, there not to far away and it helped a little, gonna jerk the muffler assy off and see
if it is loose inside..I'm a purchasing agent for a 4 store NAPA group and I
need a new exh. assy anyway. I still bummed about the noise although
it's not that bad, I'll never sell this truck it's to dependable for something
I paid 6700 for in 92.
