5.0 wiring

ok so i have a 91 toy 3.blown and i want to swap in the 302 out of my 89 mustang. ive been reading up on everything i could find and found a lot of good info. my question is how to do the wiring. i know that the mustang has basically three harnesses...injectors harness, O2 sensor harness, and the return harness to the ECU. but what i don't get is how it gets tied into my toyota so i can use my guages and warning lights and such ?

im trying to make smog legal in cali.

If you want to do a smog leagal v8 swap, it will need to be a motor from a vehicle of the same year or newer than your 4Runner. Your 91' Runner will need a motor from a 91' or newer with all of it's emmisions equipment installed. Once you get the swap done you will have to get it certified by a emmisions checker guy... whatever they are called, I can't remember. Anyways, California will not alow you to take any year vehicle and use emmisions equipment from older modle motors, It's dumb as hall but the only way around it is to register it as an OHV, Off Road Only... Anyways, As for the wiring I am not sure. I am starting a 302 swap on my 91 runner. I am using a 91 F-250 as a donor. I plan on gutting the hell out of the yota and just using it as a trail rig. Good luck on your swap, PM me if you want to share anything about your 302 swap that would be helpful.

Its not too complicated, Get the wiring diagram for both, and start matching up wires. I have never done the 302, but many others. They are all basicly the same, about 5 wires to make it run and a few others for sensors, alternator and such.

As said before, newer engine 91 +, all original smog equipment from that year, no mods, or you will fail at the referee. Been there done that.

yha you dont need to tell them nothing if thay ask to pop your hood don't do it. you have the right not to unless they have a Warrant ....... popping your hood is like popping your trunk thay cant do it unless probable cause or thay got a warrant wich is really hard to get a warrant. remember if they say thy are going to impound you truck and bla bla bla ....... than you can tell them to kiss you rear bumper iv gon trough this many times in my honda.....

Some of you guys are pretty dumb for recommending he just drive the vehicle without passing inspection. That's just going to result in more tickets.

The only real answer here is this one: you cannot legally drive a '91 4Runner with an '89 Mustang engine in California on the road. So, it's a waste of time to do the engine swap in a road vehicle in your state, unless you want to make an offroad-only truck.
