4WD not working

Hey everyone, I'm helping a friend out (I personally own a 96 4Runner). Heres the situation at hand, he has a '90 SR5 V-6 Auto 4X4, smooth truck. Anyways heres the problem, the 4WD is not working. The 4WD light clicks on and you hear the transcase click but not action to the front. Any ideas? How hard is it to convert to manual hubs, I know how to on a Gen 3 but not a 1 or a 2.

Thanks Guys!

Uh... no power to the front wheels?

Check the ADD disconnect (the sleeve that slides to lock one side to the differential)?
I mean, you've checked that the ADD is working properly?
