4runner idle
So i got my first car and it is a 1990 4runner v6 3.0 liter auto. IT needed some work so my dad (he knows a good amount about toyotas, used to work on them all the time) and i went to work and took off the air intake and bunch of hoses and stuff and replaced the valve cover gaskets from a slight oil leak. Well the leak is gone and the car works fine it just idles high in park, at about 1200-1400 rpms. when i put it in drive or reverse it goes down 500-800. I was just wondering about an suggestions? or is it supposed to be that way?
I checked under the hood and it said it should be idleing at about 800 rpms.

Check your timing first. If that is set right, turn the idler adjuster on the throttle body out 1/4 turn at a time to see if that fixes the issue. If not, check the EGR valve, EGR modulator and all vac lines.
