4.88 swap increased MPG
I have the 3.0
5 Spd Manual.
33x12.5x15 Tires
Had 4.33s and got 200 miles on a full tank.
Now have 4.88s and get 285 miles out of a full tank.

3.0s are a completely random creature of their own. im getting just over 230 miles per tank on my 92 4Runner with a completely tuned motor ( and soon to be top end rebuilt ) and i have 4.88s and 33x10.50s. I've heard of people getting as low as 180-300 miles per tank... lol

Yeah mines right around 273k so I wasnt hoping for terrific mileage. Im sure theres a few things I can replace or clean to get my mpg's up. Im sure my cat is getting pretty clogged along with my EGR

I usually get about 215 miles to a tank in my pickup for 13 gallons, thats around town, I took a trip to the coast over the weekend which was mostly highway and I got 258 miles after driving 50 of that in town, all stock drive train 22re on 31's, my wifes 4runner gets about 190-210 miles out of a tank mostly in town. 285 is crazy, I am jealous.

I get about 230 on my 3.0 auto with 176,000 miles. I'm hoping it'll go up slightly now that I got my timing belt replaced and the timing is set correctly, and even more once I get it tuned-up. This is with 31x10.5x15 AT tires.

my 93 get about 230 mi per tank (16 gal)... running 31's and the stock 4.88's Just over 300k on the motor... but I never got any more than 275 mi outta a full tank on it, and thats when I first got her.
my 94 gets about 275-325 from the same amount of gas... running 31'a and the stock 4.56's..... 5 spd makes a huge difference.... Just over 270k on the motor

if your getting that with a 3.0 and new gears i wonder how all new fresh 22re with some minor intake mods, 268 cam and 4.56 will do. dunno if it'll be worth to regear to 4.88 but 5.29 would be for later

i gotta ask are those numbers accurate. you probably counted miles slow with big tires and stock gears, meaning if it says you drive 1 mile you are driving like 1.2 miles and with the correction it is probably closer to accurate with the 4.88's. have you taken that into consideration, if you have cool new gears are always fun and its nce to get a little pep back

I see what youre saying. I got the idea to do the 4.88 swap after calculating my tire size and gear ratios.. I dont have the link via iphone but that calculator claimed to return the performance back to stock( with slightly higher rpms at highway speed) you guys may be correct about the speedometer though.. Hmm
