After I do my timing chain I would like to lift my truck in stages as money allows. First lift then gears and finally bigger tires. I am wondering if anyone has pics of a 4-5 inch lift with 31x 10.50 tires I have been looking for pics to see if it would look stupid or if I could run it for a while but i haven't found any with this combo. Pics of a short box would be awesome! Additionally do I need to remove the cylinder head to do the timing chain on my 22re? Depending where I look I get different answers, yotatech seams to be the best source so I figured id ask. Thanks

No you do not need to remove the head, unless the chain broke or it overheated.

be carefull not to mess up your head gasket when you do the timing chain. go to enginebldr.com for parts.

and just do a BJ spacer lift and shackles, its way cheaper and will still look good. that way you can do the lift and get 33s the same time

Im interested in the pic as well! ... I might be lifting my truck 4-5" and want to know how my currently installed 31" tires would look like. I heard the recommended/normal size is 33".

yep, longest part will probably be getting all the old gasket off.
And i second the advice of the engine builder.com kit, i've used two in the last year

31s will fit stock. With a 4-5" lift it will look silly.

Bigger tires or less lift.

Its the first step to bigger tires, I already have 31's. Judging by the pics though it does look kinda stupid. I plan to run 35's when time and money allows but I need to regear first

If you have the money now, buy the parts. Just don't install them yet if you are worried about appearence. I have a stack of parts that are waiting to go on the truck once I finish this frame repair.

I wouldn't worry about the gears all that much at first unless you will be crawling with the truck. I have 35x12.50's and it would be nice to have 5.29's but the truck does fine with what it has right now.

yea i dont know why everybody thinks the truck NEEDS to be geared for 31s. i have run 35s with stock 4.10s and yea its slow but honestly these trucks never were that fast

I was also running 35's with 4.10's and it was pretty aweful trying to take off on a hill. Switched to 4.56's and it's noticeably better. I also don't have to shift into 3rd to go uphill on the highway

It does suck to have to switch gears all the time but for me and were I'm at the only time I have to go up hill is over the bridges or the highway over passes. I will regear eventually.

I can post a pic of mine on 31" with 4" lift when I get home..


And as for now, put me in with the guys running 35" and stock gears (4.10). It's fine, and if you are offroading and go up a hill just put it in low range and 2nd or 3rd gear you're fine!

i would jump up to 35's on 4.56's...but i drive about 15,000miles over the summer working...so that wouldn't work lmao

I intend to lift, then gear, then 35's. Its slow enough as it is and I don't want to have to shift to low range to get through deep snow on my way to work everyday. I notice a pretty big power difference when i switch between my stock size winter tires and my 31's so iam sure 35's would be total dogs. I would rather do it in steps over time but do it right..IMO
