4.2 Diesel swap???
Just wondering if anyone has thought of putting a 4.2 Diesel out of a landcruiser into a toyota truck? I dont know much about the engine, or if it is any good, specs look like it has alot of power. thought it would be cool to drop into a 89 to 95 ext cab 4x4 pickup, for some extra power and tow capacity. I like diesel alot but the 2.4 D dosent have the guts, and the 3.4 gas out of the newer trucks sucks fuel just like the 3.slow. So i thought maybe u guys might have some input on this topic. PS the truck would be like stock and not for wheeling, more of a work truck or somthing. Thanks

im not sure about the 2.6. i was thinking the 4.2 to tow alot. said somewhere that the 4.2 turbo diesel in the 80 series landcruisers, have like 200 hp and like 325 foot pounds of torque. Could tow alot with numbers like that. not 100 percent on the numbers though.

ya space in the tiny engine area of the trucks is the only draw back i can see. But i want somthing that just rips and is all toyota. Kinda like a 5.9 0r 6.7 cummins in a dodge, the power of a inline turbo diesel is amazing. My fathers 6.7 dodge 3500 pulls anything and just ripps when u put your foot down, and thats what im looking for, were the 2.4 D doesent cut it. not dissing the 2.4 D or anything, just looking for power.

Maybe with enough cash. I think half cut for the 1HD-T are somewhere around $7500-10K. Since you're in Canada, you could try looking at a turboed 3B, 3.4L. While a n/a 3B doesn't make a lot of power, the impression that I get from people with them in a BJ60 is that low end is good and once up to speed it is fine, turbo it and it gets much better. It's a very well built, sleeved, industrial type engin. They were originally sold in Canada and will last 500k km. I also know that I've seen a thread somewhere of someone putting one in a mini, but can remember where. Still lots of fabrication though.

yah the 3B sounds not to bad i will look in to that too. Im just tierd of gas guzzling v6's, and love diesels so i want to do a ext cab with a diesel, and im not worrying about the price rightnow, as im just looking around at the moment looking at options.

You could with modifications to the engine compartment. i think maybe modify the firewall and the hood would do it. I'm not sure about transmission compatability.

Done yet ??
Great idea !! I was looking to put a SB chevy with a 671 blower ( NO BS !!! ) Smog was going to be a pain even with very little boost
i saw your post here and I am going to look into this now.
Truck has currie 9'' ford posi,4:88 and rear disc. rear has 6,MX 6 shocks on back.
3.0L MOTOR WITH 324,000 MILES ( TIRED )
How much is the diesel motor ?
Thanks, Danny

I tried putting in a 4.2 from a LC80. I had the motor in my garage a few years back, but that sucker is actually longer than the hood of my hilux.
That will not fit even if you loose the radiator, or place it in the back. Might if you cut out sheetmetal and place the engine backwards.
Still the thing weighs a ton. There is a good reason why the LC frame and axles are heavier than the pickup.
The 3.0 1KZ-TE would be the better choice. It's also has plenty of power and torque.
