4.0 backspacing rims

can you run 4.0 BS rims on a 2nd gen 4runner with bj spacers and cruiser coils? i know i've heard to do 3.75? 4.0 would make it less wide than 3.75 right?

It might be close if you run a wide tire, like a 12.5". You could grind a little off the upper control arm to clear it. If you run a skinner tire you will have no problems.

I'm running 15x10's with 5" backspacing and had 32x1150 BFG AT's with no problems. Just bought 31x10.50 Goodyear MT's and still no problems. Actually got more clearance! Bought the bj spacers a while back but still haven't installed them (I don't expect any problems with that also). When you look at backspacing on a rim the width of the wheel determine how much the tire will "bulge". If I had only a 7" wheel, the BFG's it would not have cleared the upper arm. Remember, the stock 7" wheel has either a 4 7/8" or 4 3/4" backspacing.

I have also found BFG a/t's to be a little small for their rated size. Well, most a/t's for that matter....

Stock backspacing is 4.75". Either with the 15x7" alloy or 15x6" steelie.
