3VZE valve cover torque?

Hey guys,
Just put my valve cover on and the FSM torque spec says 48inch foot pounds.
This seems too loose to me?
Is 48" correct?
Thanks
Steve

Yes. That's about 4 lb/ft. If you overtorque them they the bolts will stretch or break.

The number of screws are plentiful, fine thread, fastening into aluminum and valve covers are polymer. Recipe for disaster if over torqued. If you get a leak its because you forgot the FIPG adhesive in the recommended places or you are using parts off crappy molds from the really far east.

Just to be picky, but it's 4 ft-lbs or 48 in-lbs (torque), not 4lbs/ft (distributed load).

Fine, be picky! I know, I was typing in a hurry. I think everyone got the point, though....

even neater is that I could not find that in the FSM or the HAYNEs......FSM says nothing.....unless I am to use the graph to figure out the bolt heads and the corresponding torque rating and the HAYNES says ....snug, but not too tight.....gee, thanks for that HAYNES.

Nice and snug using a 1/4" ratchet is just fine, snug with a larger ratchet is too tight and will damage threads.

Hey thanks You guys for posting the torque spec for the valve covers. I bought my FSM the same year I bought my Pickup new, both from the dealer, that was in 1989. That issue of the FSM does not include that torque spec anywhere in the the book. Excellent graphic from Mudhippy, my FMS does not have that in it. So, thanks again.
