3vze stalling when engine warm and driven for a while
Hi All,
Firstly sorry if this is a repost.
Have a 95 4runner 3vze engine. Just rebuilt it due to thrown rod bearing and too many oil leaks.
Problem is as follows
slightly hard to start first thing but will fire if keep cranking.
When run for a while stalls when pulling up at lights or stopping. try recranking without turning off and wont fire.
turn off and it fires for 2 secs and then dies. Keep the gas pedal depressed and it will fire. pull up at lights and keep it over 1000 and it keeps running but in an auto this is scary.
replaced the following as well
Fuel filter
Pressure regulator
spark plugs
spark plug wires
rotor cap
rotor
have spark
have fuel
Timing reset
the vehicle ran fine for 4 weeks after rebuilding but this issue has just started
any ideas would be appreciated as this is taxing my brain

Sounds similar to something mine does and i've narrowed it down to out of adjustment valves (I think...). I believe there is actually a procedure for this after a new engine is run for a bit. I don't have time to look around right but you should try searching valve adjustment... My quick thoughts...

yeah sounds like the valves loosened up. i've always found this odd because after mine was rebuilt the valves actually tightened up, then again i had new valves and cams put in and re-shimmed.

Squeeze the intake tube between the VAFM & Throttle Body checking for cracks. If you pull codes I'd be it shows a lean running condition. Also, is your timing advanced too far?

Hi All,
Thanks for the posts but traced it to a faulty Ignition coil. Only thing i didnt replace. Oh well you live and learn and when your stressed my first thing should have been to forget about it for a while.
Actually when i was replacing the coil... low and behold water in the electrical connection. can of electrical circuit cleaner and a new coil later and problem solved. Last thing i need to do is replace the faulty coolant sensor but that will have to be weekend as right now hundreds of miles from home and no tools
