3vze Idler Pulley No. 2 (upper, big one)

The part I bought to replace my old idler pulley (the one with the water outlet) is made by GMB. It came with an o-ring (but not round) type seal in the groove where you would normally put RTV or FIPG.

My question is:

Do I just use this to seal it?
Or use the rubber seal AND FIPG?
Or remove the rubber seal and just use FIPG?

Thanks!
Jason

Howdy Jason,

If the rubber seal looks like it's a good quality part and fits well, then I'd use it. Don't put FPIG where the seal will go but you could clean the mating surfaces well with acetone or MEK and then coat the outside edge of the idler mating surface with a thin layer of FPIG as a secondary seal. Make sure the FPIG won't squeeze between the rubber seal and the intake before the rubber seal compresses into place as you install the idler. Sounds like an improvement over using FPIG alone.

Here is a picture of the idler. GMB Brand. As far as quality of the rubber seal, I really don't kow. I thought I remember seeing a post by someone saying to rip that rubber seal right and use FIPG because theirs leaked just using the rubber seal and no RTV. But I can't find it now. I think I will heed your suggestion and use both.
Thanks Bugs...Again!!

That's the thread that says not to use the supplied O-ring. Post # 15.
