I just found out my 95 4runner has a head gasket leak at 90K miles.

I checked with Toyota and it isn't covered by the head gasket service campaign so I am looking at having to pay around $1800 to have a shop do the gaskets or doing it myself.

I've done a lot of work on 22RE's including a few head gaskets but have no idea how much work is involved with the V6. It looks to me like it would be a major pain to pull the heads on the V6 so I'm seriously considering just forking over the dough.

Is it really as hard a job to do as it looks? $1800 seems like a lot of money to me but maybe it is worth it if it will save me a lot of aggravation. Any thoughts are appreciated!

yes there a real pita but it could be done of you have the skill

I'd bet with your experience on the 22RE you would find the job not overly difficult, just more time consuming.

Guess you will have to decide if the the learning expereince and cost savings would be worth it in the long run.

I'd bet you could add some upgrades like headers and still be well ahead money wise if you do it yourself. I managed, and the HG replacement was was frist voyage into "major" engine work.

YotaTech really helped me out and is probably the best tool to have should you decide to give it a go... plus a factory manual.
