3vze head gasket debate. Engnbldr vs LCE

Over Christmas break Im going to tear apart my motor and take care of a few things. Mainly a pesky valve tick and a serious oil leak. Im going to have the heads checked and valves adjusted etc etc. So im looking at gaset sets. Engnbldr sells a set for 100 dollars plus 40 bucks for a new belt and another 40 for new bolts. I have heard nothing but good things about Engnbldr. I like the fact that he is a Toyota guru and knows his engines inside and out,

I have a friend who is saying "its LCE or bust" the head studs are 240 bucks and another 100 for the MLS gaskets. Anybody have experience with these??

As always, cost is a factor in my decision, but I don't want to have to tear it all apart in a year from now.

Any input is appreciated

I cant speak from experience, but I ordered the full gasket set from engnbldr, hes got a ton of support online here and was very plesant to speak to and deal with, but i'm getting the head bolts from NAPA for cheaper (but i have a discounted account there) and the timing belt kit I'm checking out good prices online.

Depends on whether spending more with LCE makes you feel cooler or not.

Go with Ted@engnbldr. LCE is overpriced. Engnbldr has eons of wisdom on a level that know one at LCE can begin to touch. I heard he was born with a sparkplug wire for an ambilical cord....drank motor oil....and idled at 750 rpms. He can also....time a 22r BY EYE. Tighten a crank bolt by hand. I could go on and on.

Toyota head gaskets...

im really leaning towards using engnblr's set. Your experience sounds like a typical experience that I have heard. How is the quality of the gaskets??

Regular gaskets were fine. I used toyota head gaskets. I wouldnt use anything else.

All parts I have got from them have been topnotch. bolt on. no isssues. perfect record with me. Plus him and son are so nice. These guys have dreams about toyota motors. If Ted tore his shirt off...there wouldnt be a big "S" there. It would be a 22re badge. He ships right away. Packaging nice.

Never....heard a bad thing yet. I think he patrols for possible issues like a uboat in the atlantic. Anything remotely customer service pops up...he is there...torpedos it with happiness and dissappears.

If you have questions on what you can't figure out you can call Ted. I couldn't find some torque specs and called engnbldr. Absolutely no problem to talk to have me the specs over the phone. Go with Ted

Thanks. I think I will do that. I guess I was just wondering if the LCE stuff is worth the extra money. I know Ted sells good stuff.

I got my set a week or so ago and now started the re assembly. It was new for me to see that these gaskets are "upside down" from previous posts on gaskets. But i threw it on regardless, im guessing the style changed again so dont worry too much when you get your gaskets and see it opposite of what okd posts show. Graphite side now faces up, and slipper plate faces block.
