You make me wanna go out and get my exhaust fixed, I did it on the cheap, so no good sounding one for me. The shop that welded it did a band job, its leaky, and sounds horrible. I know what my next muffler will be though, yours! It sounds really nice.

Thanks, I put alot of money into it, but like I said. Im very proud of it due to the fact I did it myself... i wouldn't spent hundreds more if I had a shop do it, but now I can appreciate it
I did some cheap exhaust to upgrade from stock. but I knew that doing that I wasn't statisfied with the noise. I wanted it louder... this system is very loud... if you HATE in cab noise, I recommend not getting this system. theres nothing you can do about it unless you get a quieter muffler.

Oh and did the headers have the fittings for the EGR and PAIR? If they did, did you not put the systems in and just patch the holes?

they had fittings for the EGR and PAIR. It came with the new tubes that attached to it. and all I had to do was put them on and seal them. simple as that
Downey's exhaust leaks? I heard they were better than Doug thorley... lol weird... maybe if you just threw the borla on there, it'll sound better. Im actually about to swap the stock cat back onto my truck... you think the bigger piping will ruin the stocker?

Well it leaks because I have no PAIR or EGR. They are fixed using pennies and dimes though. I used to use pennies but they meleted. haha. It leaks where the shop welded everything together (joints on the crossover), and I don't use a cat, but you're from cali so you HAVE to have a cat. Why are you thinking of switching it out?

the high flow cat makes it sound reallllllly ricey before the pipes warm up... it just bugs me. for 10-15 minutes of driving I have to listen to that.... after that it sounds amazing. Your headers should've come with the PAIR and EGR... downey's are carb legal and are supposed to have it. and yeah, I have to use a cat. you think swapping the cat out to the stock cat will change the noise much?

I'm sure they did, but the rebuilt engine I bought came with them (a few years old), and no fittings, I had to buy gaskets, bolts and nuts, crossover, and the part that holds the tubes in. I just removed the EGR and didn't bother with the PAIR anyway haha, I mean I would have, but I was running out of money and still had to get an exhaust, and I'm sure you know what open headers sound like, I lived with that for a month, then another month with the crossover only. I got a few headaches from that, and a warning, haha.
The stock cat will put a bit of restriction, but it doesn't hurt to try does it, and as for sound, i think it will make it a bit quieter (teensy)

Um, I'm not really too sure, but it shouldn't cause a noticeable difference as far as restriction, and noise is just a little bit quieter, but not that noticeable.

lmao yeah. I think my o2 censor is done for... could it be because I added bigger pipes, and a high flow cat that the o2 censor is burning up? what could be the possbilities?

Thanks for posting the video..great sound in cab and out.
As for the CAT...there'll will be an increase in the restriction of spent gases, and performance will suffer. Though when you added the headers you increased the volumetric efficency and speed of the exhaust. So the lost power will be minimal. However, if you look into both of the converters side by side, you'll see that the only real difference should be the openings/ spaces in the ceramic bricks. I think Magnaflow use's a form of steel...Haven't researched them in a while so I'm kind of shootin' from the hip on research from maybe a year and a half ago. I guess I'm kind of fortunate with having Doug Thorley in the next couple of cities over...I'm gonna go by their facility some time this week or next and see if I can't work out a deal and get the headers cheaper than what summit sells them for...if not I'll just drop the $$ this weekend and order them. Another question on your install with the headers, Did/ do you have any leaks coming from the mounting flange (s)? I think you stated you heat cycled them and then retorqued the bolt's...how many times did you do this? Also, did you use any type of sealent on the gaskets? If so, what kind? My set will look something like this...DT headers, Magnaflow OEM cat (mine sounds like an empty can with rocks<--wont pass smog and I'm close to 3 months past due), at least a 19" length Magnaflow<-- bigger = deeper tone and not so "ricey"...aside from the cost of the headers, my muffler guy is only going to hit me for about $360.00. <--includes the cost of the cat and muffler. He'll custom bend all the pipe back up towards the body to compensate for the 2" BL I'm putting on. Then to the smog man so I can finally drive it..Legaly. I still have so much more to do..... Great job though on yours.. ![]() -Ted

My muffler is a 12.9" muffler and it has no ricey noise to it... its just ridiculously loud. My 4runner sets off car alarms when I WOT by a car. Parking garages fear me. Im actually getting a 2" body lift really soon... so i'll probably take my exhaust back in to raise it a little.

Thanks for the info....good to know the instructions have actual recomendations.
I hope I didn't offend you by the ricey comment... My buddy had an Acura Integra with a Flowmaster on it and I thought that sounded pretty bad a$$... but then he was 19 at the time and it was only his 2nd car. Again, he had to drive it not me. I prefer a more mellow tone, but something that really comes to life when you romp the throttle...and Magnaflow has met this criteria for my last 5 vehicles. And the straight flow through design releases all back pressure created by most MFG.'d mufflers. Currently on my 04' F-150 5.4, I have a 21" Magnaflow and it works perfectly...only took 4 different mufflers before I went back with the tried and true Magnaflow. By Leaks, I ment...some header flanges become warped if not heat cycled and retorqued properly and even then they still might warp...the JBA's on my F150 are warped...I paid someone else to do the install...now I'm paying the price for it with a really nice exhaust leak. They need to be machined and then reinstalled...correctly. In the instructions did they DT list the loctite sealent you used? Just curious... -Ted

![]() And nope, My headers haven't warped or anything. they're all sealed up and sound amazing. I've put a couple thousand miles on them already and it sounds just as good as they did when I installed them ![]() No offense taken! everyone has their own opinion. my exhaust is loud, and isn't ricey. I've had people come up to me asking what kind of motor I have in my truck. and their face lights up when I say I still have the 3vze. No, in the instructions they said ( we recommend using a sealant to insure the headers do not cause leaks and it listed a few companies, Locktite being one of them. )
