3vze bolt and cap question
What is this component? The big bolt is about 1 1/4 inches and holds down an aluminum cap. It is on the drivers side of the engine on the opposite side of the engine mount of the oil filter. Kinda looks like an alternate oil filter location. Its leaking oil but I dont want to take it off until I know whats on the other side. Its in an 88 4runner.

Some 3vz's have an oil cooler there.
Looks like your engine just has a block-off plate.
You probably just need a gasket or new o-ring.
Should'nt be anything under there that will jump out at ya.

You'll want to replace both gaskets. http://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/show...rimLevel=18292
The large one 90301-68004 is about $4 at the dealer, the smaller one 90430-20012 is about $1.60-$2.00. I'm sure you can use an ordinary o-ring if you can find the right size, but for $4 there's no point driving all over the place.
