3VZ Popping and shaking

The engieen start to pop (from the exhaust) and it shakes a bit when it revs, from about 1000-2800. At higher rpm (over 2800) it dissapears. Idle is fine. Cant notice anything in gear. Shifting is also hard sometimes. Sometimes, when going slow in 1 gear, the "walk" is "unsmooth" as if you where "shaky" in the right foot.

Any help would be gold!

If the popping is happening when you decelerate while in gear, as when engine braking occurs, then your dashpot may be bad. Or may need adjusted. It could also cause the 1st gear idling crawl to be jumpy(unsmooth) like your not working the throttle soft enough(shaky with right foot). Try turning the adjustment screw on the throttle in so that it moves toward the plunger of the dashpot. Do a little at a time and see if it helps. The adjustment makes the dashpot engage sooner, if it's functioning properly.

I don't have any ideas on the engine shaking. My 3VZE does the same thing. I've just gotten used to it, it doesn't bother me now. I think it's probably the way they're built, very "buzzy" engine.

Thanks for your answer. I havent notice any popping when deacelerating, only when in neutral. Could it still be the DP? Might it be a burnt valve? Hope not...

No, only if when decelerating in gear, not in neutral.

Burnt valve? I hope not too.

How is your ignition? Is your timing correct? Are your spark plugs and wires in good order?

M guess, timing is off, bad coil, or ignition. Maybe fouled plugs.
