Being that the truck is new to me, although I've worked on my own trucks I don't know anything about this one. It only does it after the 1st start, when I go for lunch or a few hours after it's been started. It starts fine, idles up, then down to almost dying, back & forth for 30 seconds or so then it's fine. It isn't rough when it's doing it, very smooth idle all the way through. No engine codes, and I've read probably a dozen threads here using search. I tried a couple of things like checking vacume lines and I d\l the fsm and will go through the trouble shooting section for the gas part. It has new plugs/wires/caps, I don't like how the aftermarket wires fit the cap, the fall out pretty easy, I push them back in daily but doubt that's it. I should mention it does smell very rich when it first starts, almost like it's going to flood but it smartens right up and it's fine after that. I'm going to a toyota dealer in the next town to get some valve cover gaskets so I'm going to see if I can pick their brains a bit too, thanks for looking - JC.

Ck coolant temp sensor not sender, and ck for vacuum leaks .

I'm new at Toyota but on almost every Japanese car I have had they have an idle air control valve that when malfunctioning would cause the idle to rise to 1500 then drop to 800 then repeat over and over. Like I said, I'm new with Toyota so i might be wrong

sounds to be the idle air control it will act this way and never throw out a code
